DMSO/Hypericum cream can relieve pain and speed healing.
DMSO is a substance used for the treatment of pain in a variety of conditions. Considered an “alternative” treatment, DMSO penetrates the skin, then exerts anti-inflammatory action and relieves pain and swelling as well as improves joint mobility. It increases blood flow throughout the body and speeds healing processes. Most often it is used to treat arthritis pain, as well as sprains, strains, bruises and bone fractures. It is less expensive and as effective as other, more costly, treatment options. The National Academy of Sciences evaluated DSMO in 1972, and found it highly effective for musculoskeletal inflammatory conditions in many people. It does have an odor that can turn up on your skin or breath after use for a few days. Many DMSO creams are mixed with herbal extracts such as rose oil to diminish the odor.
Hypericum is an herbal substance (St. John’s Wort) which has been used for centuries to treat skin irritations and joint pain in cream and liquid form. Hypericum cream can also be used to relieve itchiness from insect bites and other skin irritations, and can be rubbed on sore muscles and joints. It is mostly odorless, although not as strong an analgesic as DSMO. Some creams combine these two ingredients.
1. Rub the DMSO/Hypericum cream on the injured or painful areas. With an ankle injury, you can apply it to the whole foot as well as the ankle and leg below the knee.
2. Repeat the application every four to six hours over the next several days, until the pain is relieved and the injury healed.
3. Use DMSO cream applied to the area of pain twice daily for longer periods for chronic pain.
4. Wash your hands thoroughly each time after applying DMSO/Hypericum cream.
