Remove Brown Spots From The Face

Brown spots or melasma is a common skin disorder in which there is uneven distribution of the skin pigment melanin. Melasma usually occurs on the face. It can be caused by prolonged exposure to the sun. It is also associated with pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy during menopause and the use of oral contraceptives. There are no symptoms associated with melasma other than brown spots. Melasma gradually disappears over eight months after stopping oral contraceptives, after giving birth or after completing hormone replacement therapy. It does come back with use of these medications or additional pregnancies. You can, however, effectively remove brown spots from your face without having to wait eight months.

1. Apply an over-the-counter face bleach cream to your face. Most bleaching creams contain hydroquinone, which is a chemical that lightens skin. Gently massage the cream on your face twice a day or as directed. Bleaching creams are available at your local drugstore; the pharmacist can help you choose the appropriate bleaching cream for your skin type.

2. Apply an oatmeal and milk mixture to your face. Oatmeal is a natural skin exfoliating substance and can brighten skin discolorations. Oatmeal is also high in antioxidants. Mix 2 cups of uncooked oats and 1 cup of milk, which will help soften your skin. Gently massage the mixture on your face and leave on for about 30 minutes. Rinse well with warm water and pat dry. Do this once every day.

3. Exfoliate your face with an exfoliating cream. Skin exfoliation is the method of removing the layer of dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, which, gradually, can diminish skin discolorations such as brown spots. Look for the ingredient alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) complex when buying an exfoliating cream. AHA can lighten brown spots and other skin discolorations you may have. Use as directed. Exfoliating creams can be purchased at your drugstore.

4. Gently massage your face with aloe vera gel. Aloe vera includes a potent substance called mucilaginous polysaccharide (MPS), which lightens and softens brown spots. Apply the gel liberally on your face and gently massage in a circular motion for about 15 minutes and leave on overnight. You can purchase aloe vera gels at a health food store.

5. Apply sunblock to your face before going outdoors to prevent darkening and further discoloration. Purchase su block lotion with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 35 or above.
