Make A Home Remedy To Get Rid Of Aphids

Protect your plants from aphids with a homemade pesticide.

Aphids are tiny insects that feed on the leaves of many plants and flowers. These soft-bodied insects can transmit disease from plant to plant, destroying the plants in the process. Although commercial pesticides are available to get rid of aphids, these products are costly and contain harsh ingredients. Opt for an inexpensive, natural approach by making your own spray to get rid of aphids in your garden. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Soap and Oil Spray

1. Pour 1 tbsp. of canola oil into a clean, empty spray bottle. Add a few drops of mild dish soap.

2. Put the lid on the spray bottle. Shake it up well to mix up the oil and soap.

3. Spray the affected plant from the top to bottom. Be sure to spray the underside of the leaves, as well.

4. Put ½ cup chopped hot peppers — any type will do—and ½ cup chopped garlic cloves into a clean glass jar. Add 2 cups of hot water.

5. Stir up the mixture well. Put the lid on the jar and let the mixture steep for 24 hours in a sunny spot.

6. Strain the mixture through a sieve or piece of cheesecloth into a bowl. Pour the mixture into a clean spray bottle.

7. Spray the solution onto the foliage of affected plants. Be sure to spray the underside of the leaves, as well.
