Preventing acne is the best course of action. Your skin reflects what is going on inside your body. Having healthy skin begins from the inside out.
Taking a daily antioxidant vitamin is a great place to start. Acne may begin to improve as the body’s immune system becomes nourished with vitamins and minerals. Specifically, taking 99 milligrams of zinc per day is recommended, as a zinc deficiency has been associated with acne conditions.
Taking fish oil capsules will help provide beneficial gamma-linolenic acid, which helps skin stay soft and smooth. Omega-3 fatty acids will help heal and repair skin tissues, and dissolve deposits that block skin pores.
Taking an acidophilus supplement is also recommended, as it supplies essential “good bacteria,” which helps reduce outbreaks. Taking two capsules of garlic three times daily with meals will help destroy bacteria and enhance immune function.
Colloidal silver is also helpful as it acts as a natural antibiotic. It may be taken orally as well as applied externally to the affected area with cotton.
Calendula is an herb with soothing properties that may help calm inflamed skin. Skincare products containing calendula and washing the skin with cooled tea made from calendula flowers may help reduce inflammation.
Although food choices are not a major determinant of acne, particular foods that are high in fat and contain too much iodine should be limited or avoided.
