Home Remedy To Kill Flying Ants

Flying ants can be annoying pests that quickly invade the home and lawn. A wide variety of pest control products are available that do work effectively; however, these items often cost more than we are willing to spend. Instead, concoct a simple home remedy that works for you and costs very little to complete. Does this Spark an idea?

Honey and Borax

This combination is a surefire way to kill flying ants. In a disposable cup or dish, mix a spoonful of honey with a spoonful of borax (available at any grocery store). Stir the ingredients with a plastic disposable spoon, then smear over the openings to any ant mounds around your property. Borax should not be ingested, so it is best to mix everything then toss the dish and spoon. The ants will be attracted by the taste of the honey, taking it back to the ant colony for the rest of the colony to feed on. The borax will kill the ants almost instantly, providing a sure way to get rid of these pests. Repeat as needed until flying ants are no longer an issue.

Dish Detergent

Dish detergent is a mild ingredient that will kill ants on contact. In a spray bottle, mix one cup of water with one squirt of liquid dish soap. Shake to mix the ingredients, then spray onto ants and ant mounds around the home. This will kill ants instantly, taking care of the problem. Repeat as needed until the entire colony has been killed off, and no more flying ants appear.

Ant Deterrents

Ants are also deterred by a few natural ingredients. Sprinkling cinnamon around the home and garden will keep ants at bay, as they are repelled by the strong scent. Alternately, add 2 cups of water to a spray bottle and stir in 2 tsp. of cinnamon. Spray around the lawn and garden.

Ants also dislike peppermint, which has another strong smell. Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil around the lawn and garden, or make a spray bottle solution of 2 cups water and 2 tsp. of peppermint essential oil.
