Green Tea

Green tea is a widely used treatment for nausea, but it may actually increase nausea symptoms in some people. Try to stick with plain tea without extra flavors, and do not let it steep too long or it may be too strong. When the tea has finished steeping, add a few ice cubes, as drinking cool liquid is generally easier on an upset stomach.


Ginger is one of the best homeopathic remedies for nausea and it works for just about everyone. There are many methods to ingesting ginger and all of them will work. You can try ginger ale, ginger snaps, ginger bread, crystallized ginger, pickled ginger, etc. If you choose to drink ginger ale, make sure it actually contains ginger, as some brands only have ginger flavoring. If you can’t stand the taste of ginger, try ginger capsules sold at health food stores, but these may take a little while extra to get into your system.

High-Carb Foods

If you feel comfortable eating, you can often help sooth your stomach with bland foods that are high in carbohydrates. Try dry toast, rice, saltines, tortillas or plain English muffins. These may not be the most delicious foods in the world and some may even be hard to eat when too dry, but they can help fill you up and absorb any nastiness sitting in your stomach.

Lay Down & Stay Down

When you’re feeling sick, it’s important to get rest. Try to take a nap. Even if you can’t sleep you should still lie down and move as little as possible. The more you move, the more you upset your stomach. If you don’t have someone to help you, only get up to use the restroom or to prepare your food and drinks and then lay down again every time the nausea increases.

Herbal Teas

Herbal teas are used all over the world to treat nausea and there are infinite blends for this purpose. Some of the most commonly used herbs for the treatment of nausea are anise seeds, peppermint leaves, fennel seeds and chamomile. You may want to try each of these to find which, if any, works best for you.

Simply steep hot water with one to two teaspoons of the herbs and then add ice. Most nauseated people respond better to cold liquids than hot ones.


Some people respond positively to lemon when they are nauseated. Try slicing a lemon and smelling the aroma. If the smell helps, you may try drinking lemonade, water with a bit of lemon juice or tea brewed with lemon juice and a bit of the lemon zest.

Skip the Warm Milk

While your grandmother may recommend a glass of warm milk to sooth the stomach, this is a bad idea. The human digestive track does not respond well to dairy, particularly when the stomach is already upset. It is best to avoid milk, cheese, butter and all other forms of dairy until you are feeling completely better.
