Home Remedies For Stretch Marks & Skin Lighteners

Skin imperfections can be unattractive and cause you to be self-conscious. The first thing we notice about one another is our exterior appearance, so it is important to keep skin smooth, healthy and clear of impurities. A few home remedies and changes in your daily routine can keep imperfections at bay and keep skin healthy and resilient. Does this Spark an idea?

Stretch Marks

When the skin stretches or shrinks rapidly, usually during pregnancy or periods of weight gain or loss, stretch marks result. Although you can’t always avoid stretch marks, keeping the skin hydrated is the most effective way to keep them at bay, as skin elasticity prevents the cracking that causes stretch marks.

Lotions high in vitamins A and E are the most effective remedies. Cocoa butter lotion is one of the best lotions on the market, as it contains high levels of each. Purchase vitamin E either in a cream or in capsule form. Prick one end of a capsule open with a needle, squeeze out the oil and rub gently over the stretch marks until the oil is absorbed into the skin.

Exfoliate one to two times per day, using a loofah or washcloth and a grainy exfoliating body wash to break away dead skin cells, stimulating new cell growth that is not damaged by stretch marks. Massage your skin to stimulate cells as well. A daily combination of exfoliation, massage, and moisturizer application will fade your stretch marks (if not erase them completely) within a few weeks.

Skin Lighteners

Use home skin lightening treatments to avoid costly professional treatments. Make a skin lightening lotion with lemon, white wine and sugar. Cut one lemon into slices. Pour one cup of white wine into a small pot, and bring to a boil. Slowly add the lemon slices, and let boil for about one minute. Set the pot aside to cool, and stir in 1 tablespoonful of sugar. This makes about 8 ounces of skin lightener, which can be stored in an airtight bottle and rubbed on the skin you wish to lighten.

Keeping Skin Free of Impurities

Drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of water each day; hydration is what gives your skin that fresh, glowing look that so many strive to achieve. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, which are loaded with antioxidants that nourish the body and skin. Stay away from greasy and salty foods, as these clog skin pores and can lead to skin imperfections. Rest is another important factor in overall body and skin health. The human body requires eight hours of sleep each night, so be sure you’re giving your body the right amount of rest.
