Home Remedies For Adult Acne In Women

Crushed mint leaves are effective in treating adult acne.

Adult acne affects 50 percent of adult women in their lives, according to Acne.org. Many adults affected by facial acne can also have acne all over the body. An array of over-the-counter products and expensive prescriptions are available; however, a few home remedies can be done in the comfort of your own home before spending a lot of money for commercial treatments.

Mint

Crush or chop a handful of mint leaves as fine as you possibly can. Mint leaves can be purchased at your local grocery store. The leaves will make a small amount of juice when crushed. Apply the leaves and juice to the affected areas on your face. Leave on face for at least 10 minutes, and then rinse with cold water. Use this remedy can be done as often as necessary to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain caused by acne. Mint contains menthol, which is an anti-inflammatory and natural analgesic.

Lemon Juice

Mix equal amounts of lemon juice and rose water and apply directly to acne with a cotton ball. There can be an initial sting caused by the lemon juice, but it should not last very long. Leave on skin for approximately 30 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. Rose water is found at most health food stores or online and is made from roses. It has antibacterial properties and a soothing effect that helps tone down the astringent lemon juice. Apply this mixture to the face daily. Avoid going in the sun after using lemon juice, as it can lighten the skin or cause it to burn.

Tea tree oil is available at health food stores and some grocery stores. It is a natural herb treatment for adult acne that can stop the growth of bacteria. Apply the oil directly to the skin with a cotton ball daily.

Oatmeal

Cook a single serving of plain oatmeal and add ¼ cup of honey. Allow the mixture to cool and apply to your face for at least 20 minutes. Avoid the eye area. Rinse with lukewarm water after 20 minutes to 30 minutes. Oatmeal exfoliates the skin and cleanses pores by absorbing the oil from your face. Honey serves as a skin toner and also helps in the application process.
