There’s nothing more exciting than anticipating a new baby, but there’s nothing more uncomfortable than persistent morning sickness. There are simple remedies you can try, however, to ease the feelings of nausea and help you simply enjoy your pregnancy.
Ginger is known to alleviate the nausea due to morning sickness and motion sickness. It has a strong flavor, but sipping on ginger tea throughout the day (or chewing ginger candy) can keep the nausea at bay.
Both peppermint oil and tea made from peppermint leaves can calm queasiness during pregnancy. Brew a pot of peppermint tea and drink it hot or sip it iced throughout the day. Sometimes just the odor of peppermint, from a drop or two of peppermint oil, can alleviate nausea.
Raspberry Leaf Tea
Raspberry Leaf tea is also thought to help prevent morning sickness because it supplies many B vitamins. There are possible side effects, however, so check with your health care provider first.
The scent of citrus peels or a citrus essential oil can also calm nausea. Keep a ziploc bag with citrus peels in it in your purse, and take a deep breath when you feel a wave of nausea coming. Or, use an oil infuser to diffuse citrus oil throughout your home.
Basil, though peppery and pungent, can have an effect similar to peppermint. Eat foods with lots of basil, and keep fresh sprigs of basil around your home to fill the air with their scent. Note: There are some warnings against using basil early in pregnancy. Check with your health care provider first.
