Free Home Remedies For Dog Inner Ear Infection

Too much bacteria or yeast in a dog’s inner ear can cause a inner ear infection. A dog with an ear infection will often shake his head or paw at his ear. You may also notice a discharge oozing out of the ear. A veterinarian can offer medication, but there are also several free home remedies to alleviate a dog’s inner ear infection.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp. hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp. water. Pour the mixture into the dog’s ear. Hold a hand over the ear and rub the whole ear area for a minute or two. The dog will shake out the solution once the owner stops rubbing it in. Wipe the remainder out with a cotton ball.

Hair Cut

Carefully cut the hair inside your dog’s ears. A small pair of scissors is best for this process. When hair isn’t present in the ears, there is less of a chance of bacteria living inside the ear.

Warm Compress

Warm compresses are helpful in relieving the pain associated with ear infections. Dampen a towel with hot water and place it inside a plastic bag. Hold the plastic bag in place on the dog’s ear for 10-minute intervals throughout the day.

Olive Oil

Drop a small amount of olive oil into the dog’s ear to alleviate ear infections. Massage the oil into the ear for about 10 seconds. The dog will shake his head to remove the olive oil. If there’s any left inside the ear, clean it out with a cotton ball.

Rubbing Alcohol

Another mixture can be made at home by mixing 1 cup water, 2 cups vinegar and 1 tbs. rubbing alcohol. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and rub it inside the dog’s ear.
